Two PhD openings in Prof. Haibin SU's group (http://orcid.org/0000-0001-9760-6567) at Department of Chemistry (http://www-chem.ust.hk) at The Hong Kong Univ. of Science and Tech.(http://www.ust.hk) One is related to modeling of the chemical bonding, structural, energetic and dynamical properties of functional materials with deep learning approaches; the other is to develop non-equilibrium statistical mechanics to tackle the mechanics and fluctuations of biomolecules.

English Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English and whose degree or equivalent qualification was awarded by an institution where the medium of instruction was not English will also have to meet the English Requirements.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)Paper-based test (PBT) score ≥ 550
Internet-based test (iBT) score ≥ 80
OR
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall score ≥ 6.0,
all sub-scores ≥ 5.5
 
The PhD scholars are entitled for the following benefits:
(i)    Stipend: HK$240,000 (~USD30,000) per year for 4 years (tuition waiver)
(ii)   Excellent Research Award: HK$40,000 (~USD5,000) in the first year of study
(iii)  Conference Travel Allowance: HK$10,000 (~USD1,300) per year for 4 years; and
(iv) Guaranteed university accommodation in the first 2 years of research postgraduate studies
