A Postdoctoral Researcher position in atomistic simulations of the Electronic, Mechanical and Thermal Properties of 2D Inorganic Materials is currently available at the Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University, Finland (http://physics.aalto.fi/).

The primary focus of the project will be using atomistic simulations at the density functional theory, tight-binding and empirical potential levels to study the electronic and thermal properties of inorganic 2D materials such as transition metal dichalcogenides. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the group of Dr. Arkady Krasheninnikov (Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Germany, and Aalto University) and it will also receive support from several experimental groups in Finland, Germany, Japan, and USA.

The successful applicant should have a PhD (or equivalent) degree in solid-state physics or materials science. The candidate should have extensive experience in using atomistic simulations at the density functional theory, tight-binding and empirical potential levels. Good scripting and programming experience is a must.

The annual total workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1624 hours. The position will be located at the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus. Typical gross salary for postdoc position at the Aalto School of Science’s Department of Applied Physics is approximately 3500 €/month and will increase over time and experience. The contract is initially made for one year, followed by an extension subject to adequate performance. The contract includes Aalto University occupational healthcare.
