Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Two studentships available in computational materials chemistry in the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton, under the supervision of Prof. Graeme Day ([email protected]). Further details and instructions on applying are available at https://www.southampton.ac.uk/chemistry/postgraduate/research_degrees/studentships.page

studentship 1: Exploring chemical space for computational materials discovery. Within this studentship, you will develop computational methods that can guide the discovery of new molecular organic materials. This project will develop methods for efficiently navigating within chemical space to identify new molecules whose crystal packing will lead to promising properties.

studentship 2: Machine learning methods in crystal structure prediction. This project will develop computational methods to guide the discovery of new molecular materials, combining state-of-the-art computational methods for crystal structure prediction (CSP) with machine learning approaches for interpreting the predicted crystal structure landscapes.

Both studentships are funded for 3.5 years, including stipend (£15,285 tax-free per annum) and university tuition fees at the standard UKRI rate (NB funding for the difference between international and home fees is not included in the studentships).
