What are you going to do?

One tenure track position (assistant/associate professor) is available in Condensed Matter Theory with focus on ab-initio or related computational methods. The focus of this position on realistic simulations of Quantum Materials will contribute to the materials theme throughout the Amsterdam BSc and MSc curricula. The position will boost Quantum Materials research in Amsterdam, both connecting to current experimental research in the Amsterdam Quantum Materials cluster, and complementing ongoing efforts within the Amsterdam Condensed Matter Theory group. What do we require?

• a relevant PhD degree in theoretical physics;
• excellent research skills, evidenced by a track record of publications in renowned international conferences and journals, and contributed and/or invited talks at international conferences/workshops;
• demonstrable excellent didactic abilities; an affinity for excellent teaching at Bachelor and Master level;
• preferably experience with the (co-)supervision of BSc, MSc and/or PhD students;
• (the ability to develop) the management skills required for general academic administration, organisation and coordination tasks;
• ability to attract external funding;
• excellent communication and social skills;
• good command of English and willingness to learn the Dutch language. International research experience is preferred as is a highly collaborative and enthusiastic approach

What to submit?

* a current CV.
* 3 letters of recommendation (preferably including a recent collaborator).
* A research statement in which you explain, as explicitly as possible, how your planned activities connect to the (theoretical and/or experimental) research focus in Amsterdam, and how it complements the expertise of existing research groups. Your statement should be succinct (about two pages) and discuss plans for the foreseeable future.
* A teaching statement in which you detail your didactic experience, and describe how you plan to contribute to the teaching in Amsterdam.
