Would you like to shape what the future of materials science will look like? The NOMAD Laboratory (https://nomad-coe.eu), the worldwide biggest data store in computational materials science is advancing its FAIR data infrastructure towards materials synthesis, experimental physics, and other theoretical methods. In this context, we are establishing the NOMAD HUB - a new materials-science data center at the HU Berlin - and are now looking for highly qualified and motivated collaborators at all levels, specifically for, scientific software developers/engineers and scientific managers.

You will be working in a highly dynamic, international team that is closely connected with numerous groups all over Germany and our partners worldwide, also exploiting synergies with the NOMAD CoE for exascale computing, the BiGmax network of the Max-Planck Society, and the OPTIMADE consortium. At present, the data-infrastructure team is focused around the groups of Claudia Draxl (HU Berlin) and Matthias Scheffler (FHI Berlin) consisting of scientists, data experts, and software engineers. With the new location and offices at the NOMAD HUB, we are now looking for several additional collaborators with backgrounds in software engineering and additional expertise in condensed-matter physics /chemistry, or materials science. The requirements comprise

  • Completed academic degree in computer science, physics, materials science, or another relevant field
  • Expert knowledge in object-oriented python programming, data modeling, and workflows
  • Experience with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and related virtualisation technologies
  • Experience with database applications
  • Knowledge of Javascript, HTML, CSS, and REST API development and/or experience in web-based frontend development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Being a team player

All positions are for up to five years with a perspective extension for 5 more years or even longer. The remuneration is based on the German TV-L statutory salary scale.
