Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

In the group of Prof. Caterina Cocchi at the Physics Department of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, a 3-year position for a research associate (m/f/d) is available starting from February 2021. A competitive remuneration based on the German public service level E13 is to be expected.

The project
The offered position is part of a program on digitalization in the natural sciences. The aim of the project is to develop concepts and tools that exploit digitalization to investigate phenomena related to light-matter interaction in nanomaterials. Interdisciplinary research, at the boundary between physics, materials science, informatics, and data sciences, will be conducted in collaboration with experimental and theoretical partner groups from the Bremen/Oldenburg area.

Our requests
The ideal candidate is a motivated young scientist with a Master's (or equivalent) and a doctoral degree in theoretical physics, chemistry, materials science, or related disciplines. Familiarity with first-principles methods such as (time-dependent) density-functional theory and many-body perturbation theory is expected. Prior research experience with problems related to light-matter interaction, including electron and/or phonon dynamics, is desired. Advanced programming skills are an asset. Proficiency in English (written and oral) is a must. Exceptionally talented students who fulfill these requirements but do not hold a doctorate are also encouraged to apply.

Our offer
The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is a young and dynamic university in the north-west of Germany. The city of Oldenburg offers a family-friendly environment and high-quality life standard. It is part of the Bremen/Oldenburg metropolitan region hosting over 2.3 Mio people and providing efficient public transport infrastructure for national and international connections. Prof. Caterina Cocchi and her enthusiastic team of young scientists have created an international and stimulating environment promoting teamwork and individual self-development. The group has a broad and consolidated collaboration network in Germany, Europe, and worldwide.

How to apply
Applications should be sent to Prof. Dr. Caterina Cocchi ([email protected]), including curriculum vitae (education, grades, list of publications and conference contributions), transcripts of degrees in English or German, contacts of at least two references, and a cover letter illustrating the research profile of the applicant and motivating the interest in the offered position.

Selection procedure
The review of the applications will start immediately. Selected candidates will be invited for a video interview.

The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the group of Prof. Caterina Cocchi strive to promote diversity in natural sciences. Female and diverse individuals as well as people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. They will be given priority in case of equal qualifications.

Interested candidates are welcome to contact Prof. Dr. Caterina Cocchi ([email protected]) for informal inquires.
