Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof. Marco Bernardi at Caltech (see bernardi.caltech.edu). Creative, independent scholars specializing in materials theory, first-principles methods, or other quantum mechanical calculations are encouraged to apply by sending a CV and a brief research statement to [email protected].

The minimum requirements for this position are a PhD in Physics, Materials Science or a related field, as well as working knowledge of DFT and many-body calculations, and/or quantum information science. Applications will be considered until mid-September.

The successful postdoctoral scholar(s) will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
1) Develop and apply first-principles calculations of electron / phonon / spin / excited state interactions and transport / nonequilibrium dynamics in materials.
2) Expertise in magnetism, magnons, spintronics, spin-orbit coupling, and/or topological materials.
3) Many-body physics and/or non-equilibrium Green’s functions.
4) Machine learning and data-driven methods applied to electronic structure theory.
5) Simulation of quantum circuits and/or quantum information science.
6) Code development in Fortran and Python, including implementation of MPI, OpenMP, or GPU parallelization.

Caltech offers an exciting environment for fundamental research, with extensive opportunities to interact with experimental groups. Please contact Prof. Bernardi directly for further discussion.
