Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Postdoc positions in Solid State Theory

Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University and

Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences, Stockholm

Starting date: January-July 2019.
Research area: Materials Theory.

Uppsala University in collaboration with Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm hereby declares postdoc positions in Solid State Theory open for application. Starting date: January-July 2019. Research area: Materials Theory, with a two-year duration and possible extension of two additional years.

The postdocs will be part of a theoretical consortium involving the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University and the School of Engineering Sciences, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. The postdocs will be involved in theory of: magnetization dynamics and ultrafast light induced phenomena, topological magnets and terahertz magnonics, quantum entanglement of collective magnetic excitations, time-crystal in magnetic nano-structures, and coupled spin-lattice dynamics. The tools to be used are primarily electronic structure theory coupled to atomistic spin- and lattice-dynamics, and a significant part of the project involves further development of these methods. The electronic structure work relies on density functional theory coupled to dynamical mean field theory, with the ambition to evaluate parameters of a low energy spin-lattice Hamiltonian for solving the atomistic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. Development and use of machine-learning tools will also be part of the tasks of the postdocs. In general, the tasks of the postdocs include both numerical and analytical work.

A successful applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in Physics, Theoretical Chemistry or Applied Mathematics. The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of the PhD thesis, or equivalent, published articles and other relevant materials, if available. Also, letter(s) of recommendation can be included.

Please submit your application by 31 December 2019, by email to one of the above email addresses.
