The theoretical chemistry and computational materials science group of Prof. Tianyu Zhu in the Department of Chemistry at Yale University is looking for postdoctoral research associates to join after January 1, 2022. The Zhu group develops and applies electronic structure methods for studying condensed phase quantum phenomena. The group is particularly interested in investigating and designing novel quantum materials and heterogeneous catalysts by bridging advances in quantum chemistry, condensed matter physics, and machine learning. See the group website for more details. The candidates are expected to work on one or a few projects including electronic structure methods for periodic materials, machine learning quantum chemistry approaches, and ab initio simulation of heterogeneous materials.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, materials science, or related fields
  • Experience in computational chemistry/physics method development and first principles simulation
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or Fortran

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing electronic structure theory, especially many-body quantum chemistry/physics methods
  • Experience in ab initio quantum chemistry or materials science software development (e.g., QChem, PySCF, CP2K, VASP)
  • Experience in machine learning, quantum computing, or quantum materials simulation

To apply, please send an email to Dr. Tianyu Zhu ([email protected]) with the following:

  • CV
  • A brief description of previous work and future research interests
  • A list of two potential recommenders

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
