Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Postdoc Position, Ph.D. Position, and Master Projects available
involving development and application of multiscale methods for solvation,
femtochemistry, excited states, and catalysis.

The positions are available at the University of Iceland, Reykjavik, Iceland, and involve collaborations with groups at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the PULSE Institute at Stanford.

Research Interests
The group
works on the development and application of a broad spectrum of techniques, including direct atomic dynamics from combined DFT and polarizable empirical potentials in a QM/MM implementation, density functional development (self-interaction correction), general optimization algorithms, transition path searches, and more. There arongoing collaborations with x-ray experimentalists at DTU, Brown University and PULSE.

Projects
The open positions involve connecting our grid-PAW-based QM/MM methodology to Trajectory Surface Hopping to effectively simulate the coupled electronic- and nuclear dynamics of charge transfer states and explore the way in which solvation and ligands affect the lifetime of such states. Other projects, more suited for e.g. master students involve applications to the study
femtochemical complexes in solution, as well as benchmark systems.

Qualification Requirements
The research projects involve method development and implementation as well as application. A solid, documented theoretical chemistry background, congruent with the position applied for, is required. Some experience with coding (Python, Fortran, C,) is preferred. The successful applicant is expected to show a high degree of independence and willingness to take charge of the project.

Ph.D. applicants are required to have completed or be in the process of completing a master's degree in Physics or Physical Chemistry to be eligible for the position.

The positions are open now and an early start date is preferred.

Work environment
The research group at the University of Iceland
provides a rewarding and challenging job environment in a dynamic and international workplace, located in a part of the world with unique natural beauty, high quality of living, and safe society. The University of Iceland strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.

Contact
For more information, contact: Research Assistant Prof. Asmus O. Dohn (
[email protected]) or Prof. Hannes Jónsson ([email protected]). The group also includes Research Assistant Prof. Elvar Jónsson and Dr. Gianluca Levi.
