Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Department of Physics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in Computational Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Cheng-Chien Chen on modeling rare-earth materials under extreme high-pressure conditions, as well as with Prof. Yogesh K. Vohra on experimental validation by the magnetic structure measurements under high pressures at the Spallation Neutron Source, Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Prospective candidates experienced with advanced first-principles techniques such as DFT+U and DFT+DMFT for modeling correlated quantum materials are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position will have an annual postdoctoral stipend of $50,000, health insurance costs, and a travel allowance for attending professional meetings. The position is renewable for a second year depending on mutual agreement and funding availability. Applicants should email the application documents – including (i) cover letter, (ii) curriculum vitae with full publication list, and (iii) contact information for three references – enclosed as a single pdf file to Prof. Cheng-Chien Chen at [email protected] and Prof. Yogesh K. Vohra at [email protected] .

A pre-employment background investigation is performed on candidates selected for employment.
