Within the research group Theory of Magnetic Materials (https://www.mawi.tu-darmstadt.de/tmm) of the Institute of Materials Science, 

we are seeking applications for one Postdoc/PhD positions [m/f/d] working on inverse design of functional materials in collaboration with Prof. Hongbin Zhang (TU Darmstadt) starting summer 2023.

Machine learning has been widely applied to obtain statistical understanding and rational design of advanced materials by mapping out the composition-processing-(micro-)structure-property relationships. The concept of inverse design can be implemented and carried out in three different flavours, i.e., high-throughput combinatorial computation [1], Bayesian optimization [2] and adaptive design [3], and generative deep learning [4]. 

We are looking for excellent candidates in this direction on functional materials, fulfilling the following requirements:

• PhD/Master degree in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Practical experience on DFT calculations, machine learning, and many-body physics is a plus
• Solid experience on coding using at least one of Python, C/C++, and Fortran
• Strong capability for independent problem solving and troubleshooting
• Self-motivated, goal-oriented personality with good interpersonal skills supporting the team-work in an international, interdisciplinary environment
• Good proficiency in oral and written English, knowing German is a strong plus.
