Multiple Ph.D. positions in Computational Materials Physics & Design are immediately available in the Department of Physics and Astronomy (https://physics.umaine.edu/) at the University of Maine (UMaine). Successful applicants for this studentship will have opportunities to work in the cutting-edge research areas of first-principles materials theory and design. Examples of research topics include, but are not limited to, photovoltaics, interface and surface physics, defects in solids, oxide interface materials for next-generation electronics, and 2D materials for flexible electronics.  Close collaboration with experimental partners in the Frontier Institute for Research in Sensor Technologies (FIRST) (https://umaine.edu/first/) and other related departments at UMaine is expected.

Students with a BS or MS degree in physics, applied physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field are welcome to apply.  Experiences of DFT calculations and scientific programming in Python (or other languages) are highly desired, but not mandatory. 

GRE is not required. For applicants from non-English speaking countries, TOEFL may also be waived.
