Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Dear friends and colleagues,
A PhD position is open in theoretical solid state physics at Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW) Dresden, Germany in the field of quantum magnetism.

The main focus of this work is on the proximate quantum spin liquid candidates on a honeycomb lattice, especially transition metal oxides and trichlorides, which are known to exhibit anisotropic magnetic interactions. The emphasis will be to understand the effects of different types of disorder on the eelctronic and magnetic properites of this materials class. For this, the candidate (m/f/d) is expected to carry out density functional theory (DFT) and exact diagonalization (ED)/ density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations and compare with the experiments, as well as participate extensively in the collaboration with the experimental and theoretical groups within the scope of the project.

Motivated candidates with strong command of Master's level physics, especially advanced quantum physics, condensed matter and statistical physics, and strong programming skills are desired. Further details of the advertisement can be found at: https://www.ifw-dresden.de/career/job-offers (job id  024-21-5200) as well as in the attachment.

Last date to apply: February 7, 2021.
