The Nanostructure Physics Group at the University of Ostrava, Czech Republic is seeking to fill a PhD position in surface-molecule interactions treated using ab initio methods.

Requirements for applicants

  • Background in computational physics, material science, quantum chemistry, or related fields.
  • Master's degree in the mentioned or similar disciplines.
  • Prior experience with atomistic modeling or computational science.
  • Advantage: Experience with plane-wave codes (as VASP), scripting, or programming.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently.

  • Cover letter (including research interests, motivation, expertise related to materials modeling technique(s) including used software, experience with scripting, programming and software development (if any), and other information that might be relevant)

  • Filled form related to experiences beyond the scope of the basic study plan (download pdf or docx)

 

Optional attachments of the application

  • Diploma and diploma supplement (scan)
  • Diploma thesis including supervisor's and opponent's assessments (pdf)
  • Evaluation of the supervisor on cooperation with the applicant addressed to the University of Ostrava (signed pdf including contact details of supervisor)

  • Proof of English language skills (internationally recognized certificate in the best case) (scan)

 

Next steps of the admission process

  • Selected applicants will be given a task to process.
  • If the task is completed in the required / sufficient quality, the applicant will be invited to a personal online interview.
