Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

PhD and Postdoc positions at Forschungszentrum Jülich / University Duisburg-Essen

We have openings for PhD and Postdoc positions, in my group Funsilab, mainly located at Forschungszentrum Jülich and partly at University Duisburg-Essen to work on various topics:

-One postdoctoral researcher is expected to perform theoretical investigations and computational-based modelling on 2D van der Waals heterostructures, with a focus on spin-orbit induced phenomena, magnetism and spin-excitations. The project is part of the DFG priority programme SPP 2244.
-One postdoctoral researcher is expected to work on complex magnetic phenomena, high-order interactions, quantum spin-fluctuations combining time-dependent density functional theory and many-body perturbation theory.
-One PhD position is devoted to magnetic skyrmions simulated from density functional theory. The project is part of the DFG priority programme SPP2137 on skyrmionics.
-One Phd position is meant to explore ultrafast magnetodynamics driven by light.

The planned research activities include the development of theoretical models and implementation of computer simulation codes. Experience with time-dependent density functional theory, many-body perturbation theory, non-equilibrium physics and Green function techniques, in particular the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker Green function, method is an advantage. We expect you to be creative, motivated to enjoy research in an excellent environment and to have a solid background in solid state physics. Good communication skills both orally and in written English, and also the ability to work independently, are essential.

What we offer: Excellent guidance and mentoring; research in a friendly, multitopical and international setting, cooperative work environment in a dynamical institute, a fantastic research and computational infrastructure.

Interested applicants should send a single PDF file containing: curriculum vitae, publication list, motivation letter and letters of recommendation. For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Samir Lounis ([email protected]).
