Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), as part of the Materials Science and Engineering Initiative, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in computational theory of materials at the Assistant Professor level. Areas of research include physical, materials and inorganic chemistry. Candidates with a strong record of publication in the field of theory of materials using computational approaches, and with a strong commitment to research, teaching, and equity and inclusion, are encouraged to apply.

The selected candidate is expected to establish a vigorous research program in computational theory of materials within the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department’s materials/physical chemistry group. The selected candidate will be expected to teach Chemistry courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and perform service to the department and university. The selected candidate is also expected to participate in the UC Santa Cruz Materials Science & Engineering Initiative by engaging in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and to engage with a future Materials Science & Engineering graduate program, through mentoring and potentially teaching.

We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing women and minorities who are underrepresented in the classroom and in higher education careers (as evidenced by life experiences and educational background), and who have experience in equity and diversity with respect to teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

The chosen candidate will be expected to sign a statement representing that they are not the subject of any ongoing investigation or disciplinary proceeding at their current academic institution or place of employment, nor have they in the past ten years been formally disciplined at any academic institution/place of employment. In the event the candidate cannot make this representation, they will be expected to disclose in writing to the hiring Dean the circumstances surrounding any formal discipline that they have received, as well as any current or ongoing investigation or disciplinary process of which they are the subject. (Note that discipline includes a negotiated settlement agreement to resolve a matter related to substantiated misconduct.)
