Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A fully-funded 2 Ph.D. positions are available at Prof. Se-Hun Kim’s group at Jeju National University, Republic of Korea. The Ph.D. student will perform experimental/theoretical investigations of 2D material’s properties and their applications.

Requirements:

1- (For the computational Ph.D. position) Prior experience in Density-functional theory (DFT) using VASP of 2D materials calculations. Practical experience in Machine learning and good coding skills using (at least one) Python, C/C++, and Fortran, are desirable. Prior experience in many-body models is a plus.
2- (For the experimental Ph.D. position) Prior experience in 2D materials like graphene and thin film characterization using Raman, XRD, AFM, SEM, etc. Hands-on experiences on current-voltage, impedance measurement are desirable. Prior experience in LabVIEW will be beneficial.
3- Solid background in condensed matter physics.
4- Good communication skills in English.
5- Ability to work independently and in a team.

The prospective applicant is expected to be strongly motivated and has a Master’s degree in experimental/theoretical condensed matter physics or materials science.
More information concerning the Ph.D. positions can be obtained from Prof. Se-Hun Kim, email: s[email protected].

Candidates should send by email as one PDF filei) a CV, ii) a motivation letter, and iii) Names and email addresses of two references to Prof. Se-Hun Kim ([email protected]) or ([email protected]).

Sir,

I have 2 years of research experience in experimental condensed matter Physics including synthesis and characterization of thin films. I have taken undergraduate and graduate courses on Python. Also, I have hands-on experience in DFT using Quantum  ESPRESSO. I would like to know more about the Ph.D. positions and the last date for application.  I am attaching my CV with this for reference.
