The Department of Computer Science at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) has two vacant PhD positions in applied mathematics and computational methods within mathematical density-functional theory (DFT). The successful applicants will be affiliated with the Mathematical Modeling group and the newly established OsloMet Quantum Hub, and will work within the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant project Regularized density-functional analysis REGAL. Work within the project will be carried out closely with various local, national, and international collaborators.

The successful applicants' primary duty is to carry out and publish research connected to the objectives of the REGAL project that focus on the development of new theory for DFT.

PhD position applied mathematics: will focus on developing the mathematical theory of Moreau-Yosida regularization in DFT. It is preferred that the candidate has documented strong mathematical background and good familiarity with quantum mechanics.

For more information about this position see full announcement.

PhD position computational methods: will focus on implementations of algorithms that will involve programming language such as Python. The implementation will involve methods from mathematics and numerical mathematics, and in addition quantum mechanics and quantum chemistry. The preferred candidate should have good knowledge of quantum mechanics and be able to write good computer codes in, for example, Python.

For more information about this position see full announcement.

For both positions: advertised as 3-year position with 100% research, or a 4-year position with 75% research and 25% other tasks (teaching, supervision and/or administrative work). The goal must be to complete the PhD program/degree within the decided time frame. The start date of the position is 01.10.2023 at the latest.
