The application materials must be submitted through varbi:

1. Theoretical work on bio-sensing/energy materials, https://uu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:730555/
2. Experimental work on carbon electronics, https://uu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:729741/

Position 1 :
Researcher in condensed matter theory with focus on energy and bio-materials

Duties
We are looking for a researcher in condensed matter theory for a project on advanced energy and bio-materials. The project is part of a larger effort focusing on new materials for energy and bio applications. These structures can be freely utilized for loading by and sensing of the interesting species like enzymes, DNA, etc.  Other study aims at efficient and sustainable hydrogen generation through developing more accurate transition pathway prediction technique as compared to the available ones, with a prime focus on two-dimensional (2D) materials.  The project involves the computational work using advanced electronic structure methods and large-scale computer simulations.

Requirements
Ph.D. degree in theoretical physics/chemistry or related subject. The applicant should have a strong background in computational materials science. Fluency in both written and spoken English is an absolute prerequisite.
Additional qualifications
Programming skills in C++ and Python are also advantageous with proven experience using VASP, GPAW, LAMMPS, GROMACS codes.

Position 2
Researcher position on  carbon electronics with focus on energy and biosensing in department of  physics and astronomy at Uppsala University, Sweden.

Duties
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to work on frontier of  hybrid carbonaceous materials for applications in carbon micro-and nano-electronics.  The project is part of a larger effort focusing on new hybrid carbonaceous materials and their applications in miniaturized energy storage, power generation and biosensing systems. The hybrid carbonaceous materials could store more energy in on-chip supercapacitors or exhibit higher sensitivity as sensing materials in digital health.  The project involves the experimental work using class 100 cleanroom facilities, such as: photolithography, sputtering, E-beam evaporation, dry etching, and wet etching. The duties include collaboration with the various members of the group as well as outside group in Sweden/abroad and the production of research results in form of scientific publications.

Requirements :
Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, or related subject. The applicant should have a strong experimental background in microfabrication, carbonaceous materials, MEMS and NEMS. Fluency in both written and spoken English is an absolute prerequisite.

Additional qualifications
Some experience in electronic structure calculations will be an added advantage.

For Both of application :

Applicant  may send application which should  consist of cover letter, CV, publication list, and a short research statement describing the applicant’s research experiences and interests. The applicant should also arrange to  two letters of recommendation sent by e-mail to wei.luo@physics.uu.se. Contact information of  referees must be included in the application.
