We are pleased to announce the opening of a permanent staff position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) for a theoretical physicist/chemist/material scientist with expertise in Quantum Monte Carlo and/or other computational many-body methods. The selected candidate will be charged with developing both the theory and software necessary to extend the applicability of Quantum Monte Carlo techniques (with focus on Auxiliary-Field QMC) to solids and correlated materials, with particular emphasis on software development for new hardware architectures. The selected candidate will become part of the team of developers of the QMCPACK software package.

Ideal candidates for the position would have a background in quantum many-body methods as applied to problems in chemistry or condensed matter physics and significant experience developing software using modern C++. Knowledge of Quantum Monte Carlo methods and high-performance computing is highly desired. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. before their hire.

LLNL is a National Laboratory within the Department of Energy laboratory complex located in the beautiful Tri-Valley region of California approximately 30 miles east of San Francisco. LLNL is currently home to 2000+ scientists and a few hundred postdoctoral associates. The lab houses several highly active theoretical/computational condensed matter physics groups, including the Quantum Simulations and Equation of State and Materials Theory Groups, with whom those hired would have the most interactions. For more details about LLNL, please visit https://www.llnl.gov/.

Please email Miguel A. Morales ([email protected]) with questions or inquiries about the position. Interested candidates should visit the LLNL website careers.llnl.gov and search the posting ID: 103762.
