Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Physics, Geography invites applications for a

W2 Professorship in Theoretical Physics (Condensed Matter Spectroscopy)

as of now

Reference is made to § 61 section 7 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. We seek candidates who have completed a first-rate PhD degree and have proven their academic excellence in both research and teaching in the area of Theoretical Physics. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

Candidates with an excellent track record and international scientific reputation who work in the field of the description of spectroscopic properties of real materials including surfaces and interfaces are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to interact closely with research groups from the Laboratory for Materials Science at Justus-Liebig-University to strengthen cooperative joint projects in physics and chemistry. The area of work should include some of the following topics: optical and electronic properties, disordered systems, many particle effects, influence of external parameters (pressure, temperature, etc.), transport phenomena and magnetism. The independent advancement of methods in the field should be proven. In addition, it is
expected that candidates have a focus on international research, on publication in high ranking journals, and have proven the ability to acquire third party funding (DFG, EU, BMBF).

Teaching duties include courses in theoretical physics, mainly in the following study programs: BSc/MSc Physics, BSc/MSc Materials Sciences, education of teachers. Gender issues should explicitly be integrated in the professorship’s research and teaching agenda.

The Justus-Liebig-University aims to employ more women in academic research. We therefore particularly encourage female candidates to apply. JLU is committed to increasing the number of women employed at the university.
