Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Various postdoc openings at ICMAB/ICN2 Theory Group in Barcelona

http://jobs.icn2.cat/job-openings/47/postdoctoral-researcher

The Theory and Simulation Groups at the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) and at the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB) both located at the Bellaterra campus, next to Barcelona, are seeking to fill several postdoctoral positions. The successful candidates will work with Enric Canadell, Alberto García, Riccardo Rurali, and Massimiliano Stengel (at ICMAB), or Pablo Ordejón and Miguel Pruneda (at ICN2), depending on the research line. The two groups are strongly linked, and collaborations between the different members and research lines are common.

The candidates are expected to join the efforts of the groups in any of its activities: (i) development of theoretical methods, numerical algorithms and simulation codes (the main activity in this aspect is the development of the SIESTA package), and (ii) study of specific problems in nanoscience, with applications in thermal transport, functional oxides, surface science, flexoelectricity, low-dimensional materials, or molecular electronics.

Highly qualified candidates with a PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry or related disciplines are invited to apply. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in one or more of the following areas: first-principles methods, theory and simulation of condensed matter, low dimensional systems and nanostructures, and programming skills (preferably in fortran/mpi). At least two positions will be involved in code developments. She/he should have good written and oral communication skills in English, be a good team player, creative, and have the ability to work independently. We offer one-year contracts with possibility of renewal for a second year upon mutual agreement, an outstanding environment for research and continuous training, with strong interaction with local and international experimental and theoretical groups.

Please send your application (including a one-page cover letter describing your research interests, curriculum vitae, and contact information of two references) to [email protected]. Evaluation of candidates will start immediately, and continue until the positions are filled. .
