The Center for Non-Perturbative Studies of Functional Materials under Non-Equilibrium Conditions (NPNEQ) aims to enable predictive simulations of materials far from equilibrium to drive research in quantum materials and attosecond strong-field physics. The NPNEQ seeks a postdoc to advance the theory of ultrafast processes and to perform computational ultrafast spectroscopy on nanostructured materials.

The postdoc will have a PhD or equivalent qualification in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science (or a related discipline). They will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Stanford/SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, providing complementary expertise to experimental characterization and software development efforts. The postdoc will work under the supervision of Drs. Liang Tan and David Prendergast at the theory facility of the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership in the area of simulation of ultrafast processes in quantum materials.
Utilize new developments in computational software to predict and understand experimental results.
Write both independent and collaborative manuscripts
Publish their work in the peer-reviewed scientific literature
Present their work at national meetings and at regular group meetings
Contribute positively to the active research culture at the Molecular Foundry
Work in a safe and healthy manner consistent with EH&S guidelines
Respect diversity and be inclusive in their interactions with others.

Position Qualifications:

Essential:
PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline
Strong publication record in top-rated scientific journals, with extensive experience in the preparation and handling of scientific manuscripts, reports and research posters.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to guide and train junior researchers.

Marginal:
Programming and mathematical modeling experience
Background in applied/numerical mathematics
Experience with Qbox software
Experience using GPUs
Experience modeling nonlinear optics
