Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Two-year postdoctoral position is open in the group of Prof. Dr. Olle Eriksson at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Uppsala University (Sweden) starting on 1st January 2023 at the earliest. The position will be financially supported by the Carl Tryggers grant received by Dr. Vladislav Borisov who is working in the same group.

Strict regulations by the Carl Tryggers Foundation require that:

1) The candidate should have a doctoral degree or equivalent from an institution other than the Uppsala University.

2) The candidate is currently not working at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Uppsala University.

3) Unless there are particular circumstances, the doctoral degree cannot be older than 6 years at the time of admission.

4) The second year of the postdoctoral position will be funded only after the report of results obtained in the first year has been approved by the foundation.

The postdoctoral research will be concerned with discovering and studying magnetic materials hosting skyrmions and other topological textures using the first-principles electronic structure method available in the RSPt code (https://www.physics.uu.se/research/materials-theory/ongoing-research/code-development/rspt-main/, [1]). Based on calculated Heisenberg and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions, atomistic spin dynamics and micromagnetic simulations of magnetic textures will be performed using the UppASD code (https://www.physics.uu.se/forskning/materialteori/pagaende-forskning/uppasd/, [2]). Detailed overview can be found in the review article [3] and recent publications [4,5].

The postdoctoral researcher will have a possibility to work with theoretical and experimental groups at the Ångström laboratory of the Uppsala University and to use computational resources of the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing. The total amount of the tax-free postdoctoral stipend for two years will be 600,000 SEK (25,000 SEK/month). Additional funding for publication (20,000 SEK/year) and conference costs (20,000 SEK/year) is available.

Candidates with the corresponding scientific background are welcome to apply for the position. Experience with density functional theory is required, while knowledge of spin dynamics and micromagnetics as well as method development and programming will be highly beneficial but not required to apply for the position.

If interested, please send your CV, list of publications and brief description (0.5-1.0 page) of research interests and previous accomplishments to Dr. Vladislav Borisov ([email protected]) and Prof. Dr. Olle Eriksson ([email protected]) by 30th November 2022.
