Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Department of Chemistry, University of Oxford, in the research group of Prof. Volker Deringer. These posts are available for a period of two years in the first instance.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Materials Chemistry: https://bit.ly/3vPB83H

This project involves the development of a comprehensive framework for describing and fitting potential-energy surfaces, using a combination of supervised and unsupervised machine-learning (ML) techniques. The postholder will drive the development of new general-purpose ML potential models to accelerate the atomic-scale modelling of structurally complex functional materials.

Applicants for this post must hold a PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related subject area (or be close to completion) prior to taking up the appointment. The research requires experience in the development of interatomic potential (“force field”) models for atomistic simulations, broadly defined. Experience with machine-learning-based interatomic potentials is an advantage.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Machine Learning for Chemistry: https://bit.ly/3Qj6bNg

This project involves the development and application of neural-network models for computational chemistry. The postholder will lead the development of a machine-learning framework for predicting NMR spectroscopic fingerprints that will be used to determine structures of complex functional materials.

Applicants for this post must hold a PhD in computer science or a related subject area (or be close to completion) prior to taking up the appointment. Applicants holding a degree in chemistry or a related area may be considered if they provide evidence for a strong prior track record in machine learning for the physical sciences. The research requires experience in the development of machine-learning methodology as well as a strong interest in materials chemistry.

For both posts, the closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, Friday, 9 September 2022.

Please follow the links above for further information (including the full Job Description and Selection Criteria documents), or visit https://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/jobs.

Please note that applications need to be submitted online through the University's system, which can be accessed through the link above.

The University of Oxford is a Bronze Athena SWAN holder and the Department of Chemistry is a Silver award holder. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
