Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Two post-doctoral positions are available in the Saidi group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Pittsburgh, starting immediately. The focus of the research is materials modeling using atomistic multiscale simulations, machine learning, and high throughput simulations. Remote working is negotiable.

More specifically, you will be part of Professor Wissam A. Said's group, who is working on the development and application of machine learning methods to accelerate materials modeling based on first-principles methods for materials,  broadly defined. For more information about the group, please see saidigroup.pitt.edu

The duration of the appointment can be up to 3 years based on research productivity, performance, and mutual agreement.

A Ph.D. in Materials Science or a related field is required. Proficiency in coding, machine learning, density functional theory, and atomistic simulations is advantageous.  The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to take a leading role in the use and development of machine learning-based methods to accelerate materials design based on atomistic and first-principles methods.

The postdoc is expected to actively participate in the dissemination of research findings through weekly meetings with the PI and other group members, author monthly reports, publish in top journals, and aid in the training of graduate and undergraduate students.

The University of Pittsburgh is ranked 37th in the world's top 100 global universities by Newsweek International, and second in the nation for nanoscale research (Small Times, 6(3) 2006). The Places Rated Almanac named Pittsburgh recently as "America's Most Livable City." For information on benefits, please check https://www.postdoc.pitt.edu/postdoctoral-classifications-benefits-and-compensation

To apply for this position, please send a resume with the names and contact information for three references, and a cover letter that justifies how your education, research experience and expertise are a good fit for the position.

To obtain more information, please contact,  Professor Wissam A. Saidi ( alsaidi at pitt.edu)
