Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are looking for highly motivated PhD researchers to work at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Our group focuses on the theoretical description of magnetic and superconducting systems. We combine first-principles calculations of the electronic structure on the subatomic scale, as well as atomistic spin-model and tight-binding simulations with analytical modelling to discover phenomena induced by the spin-orbit coupling in these materials. Magnetic and superconducting systems are in the focus of contemporary research interest because of their wide array of possible applications ranging from spintronics through brain-inspired computing to quantum information.

Requirements:
Applicants should have an MSc degree in Physics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science or another field related to the topic of the call. Candidates who are expected to finish their MSc degree in the next few months are also encouraged to apply. Having a strong background in theoretical solid-state physics, numerical methods or first-principles simulations is considered an advantage.

Position details:
Fully funded PhD positions are offered for the duration of four years. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics is the leading institute of technology in Hungary, offering an international environment with widespread connections abroad. Candidates will get the opportunity at the university to participate in national cooperative projects on quantum technology encompassing superconductivity and magnetism.

Application:
The applications should be submitted to Dr. Levente Rózsa via e-mail ([email protected]). Applications are accepted until the position is filled or the latest until the 31st of December 2023. The submitted materials should contain a motivation letter, a CV and copies of academic degrees in English in a single PDF file.
