Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a 3-4 week delay between posts being submitted and emails being sent to the mailing list. Please bear with us while we try to improve this.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Two funded Ph.D. positions are available in the Materials Theory, Informatics, and Design group at the University of Maine, USA.  The group, led by Prof. Liping Yu, focuses on the computational and rational design of novel materials for sustainable energy and next-generation electronics applications.  The research project aims to (i) advance the atomic-level understanding of solid-state phase transitions from first principles, and (ii) develop advanced machine-learning methods for the rational and rapid design of new functional 2D materials, interface materials, and alloys.  Close collaboration with experimental partners in the Frontier Institute for Research in Sensor Technologies (FIRST) (https://umaine.edu/first/) and other related departments at UMaine is expected.

Students with a BS or MS degree in physics, applied physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field are welcome to apply. Knowledge of quantum mechanics, solid state physics, and experiences in DFT calculations and scientific programming in Python (or other languages) are highly desired, but not mandatory.  For applicants from non-English speaking countries, DUOLINGO or TOEFL test is needed, but GRE is not required.

Interested students, please apply by February 15, 2023, through the following link:
