Two PhD positions are available in the Department of Chemistry at University of Zurich (Switzerland).

The University of Zurich is operating an interdisciplinary research priority program on "Solar light to chemical energy conversion" (LightChEC; http://www.lightchec.uzh.ch) with the goal to develop an efficient visible light-driven water splitting device for sustainable energy storage and conversion. Detailed understanding and development of water splitting catalysts is essential for this endeavour and the PhD positions are embedded in this framework.

The research topic of the first position deals with method development and application in the field of spectroscopy for molecules in the gas and condensed phase. The second project focuses on accurate approaches for in-depth investigation and design of catalysts for solar light-driven water splitting. The projects will be carried out in close collaboration with other groups, in particular of the LightChEC program. Methods used will include density functional theory and wavefunction-based approaches as well as ab initio molecular dynamics.

The candidates must hold a Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, or related, and have profound English skills. Strong programming skills and good knowledge about electronic structure theory and molecular dynamics are an advantage.

For further information, please contact Prof. Sandra Luber (email: [email protected]).

Interested applicants are encouraged to send their application documents (cover letter, CV, transcript of diploma, description of research experience and motivation, names of two academic references) as one pdf document by April 21st, 2017 per e-mail to Prof. Sandra Luber.
