A postdoctoral position is available at CEA-Grenoble on the computation of phonon conduction through suspended nanostructured membranes.

The controlled manipulation of heat fluxes by thermal metamaterials is a major challenge of small-scale energy management. We will investigate low temperature thermal transport effects involving large phonon mean-free-paths and long phonon-wavelength in periodic and aperiodic nonlinear nanostructures. The focus systems will be phononic crystals and thermal rectifiers.

The postdoctoral appointee will work on the implementation of a parallel code for the efficient numerical calculation of phonon transport Green’s functions in mesoscale 3D structures with arbitrary geometries. The theoretical results will be compared with experimental measurements from collaborating laboratories.

Required qualifications:

A PhD in physics or closely related discipline. Good programming skills. Familiarity with object oriented programming. Proficiency in numerical computing.
