A 6 years Tenure Track position (Junior Professorship position) is open at IRCER (UMR CNRS 7315), Limoges, France.
The topic turns around the development of Artificial Intelligence approaches for materials science and processes.
The position is intended to be filled by an expert in AI with an excellent track record and a proven experience in the field.
The hired candidate will benefit from a very competitive salary and will be accompanied by a generous budget to hire phd students and postdocs.
Here is a very short description of the expected candidate profile:
RESEARCH:
The research will be performed at the institute of Research for Ceramics (IRCER, UMR CNRS 7315, University of Limoges, France).
The research project may cover two themes depending on the candidate's profile.
Theme 1 focuses on the consolidation of the digital chain, including ceramic processes, surface treatment processes, and the automation of materials characterization. Real-time monitoring and sensor networks are necessary for full exploitation of the digital chain. Big data from the diagnostic techniques of IRCER will be used to develop deep learning methods based on neural networks, optimizing processes, and automating characterizations. The project aims to develop a complete platform for the fabrication and characterization of advanced ceramics integrating shaping and consolidation technologies with machine learning capabilities.
Theme 2 involves modelling and numerical simulation of materials and their properties at different spatio-temporal scales. This can involve research around the study of
the relationship between the microstructure and thermomechanical properties of refractory ceramics (Discrete Element Method), thermodynamic modeling (CALPHAD method), or Atomic scale modelling (DFT, molecular dynamics, and Brownian dynamics). The candidate should focus on applying and developing cutting-edge AI techniques to accelerate modeling, design and discovery of new ceramic materials.
TEACHING:
The hired candidate will work on consolidating the training base in ceramic materials and surface treatment sciences at the University of Limoges, focusing on artificial intelligence, numerical simulations, and statistical methods. The candidate will also supervise internships and tutorials for training courses and disseminate scientific culture around the themes of artificial intelligence to develop awareness among students and staff.
