Scientific Programmer - Part-Time
The role of Senior Engineer in CSIRO is to design innovative solutions leading to scientific achievements that are aligned with CSIRO's strategies. You may be engaged in scientific activity ranging from fundamental research to the investigation of specific industry or community problems. You will have the opportunity to build and maintain networks, play a lead role in securing project funds, provide scientific leadership and pursue new ideas and approaches that create new concepts.
An outstanding opportunity exists for a motivated and skilled Scientific Programmer to join Data61’s Molecular and Materials Modelling (MMM) Team. MMM is a multi-disciplinary team that develops advanced methods, software, and platforms to enable discovery in computational chemistry and materials science. In addition to programming skills, this position requires a high level of domain knowledge in the fields of computational physics and materials science.
In this position, you will take a lead role in the development and maintenance of a number of software packages used to model and analyse the properties of nanoscale materials, with particular emphasis on Molecular Dynamics, Monte Carlo, and geometrical characterisation. You will use best practices to ensure the software is accurate, reliable, and maintainable. You will work with other members of the team to identify new requirements, and opportunities to expand the scope and applicability of the software. In addition to writing software, this position will involve demonstrating the capabilities of the software through peer-reviewed publications involving application to topical problems of interest, and in conference presentations.
This position is part-time (2 days per week) with some flexibility as to which days require attendance.
