Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A researcher position is currently open in the device physics research team of the Microsystem and Terahertz research center(MTRC) of China academy of engineering physics(CAEP). The research is about the development of density functional and molecular dynamics(MD) methods and software capable of evaluating the long-time evolution of defects and defect clusters in semiconductor materials under environmental effects(such as photo-excitations, trace gas molecules, high-energy particle incidence, etc.). The initial contract is for three years, with the opportunity of a permanent position at MTRC upon satisfactory job performance. Chinese citizens will have institution establishment. This position is not a classified position.

Aside from this position, we are also recruiting researchers in nanophotonics and quantum physics. Interested applicants(PhD required) in these fields can inquire about the positions by emailing [email protected].

Requirements:
A PhD in condensed matter physics, computational/theoretical physics/chemistry, or other related fields is required. Fortran or C/C++ programming skill is a must. The applicant should be familiar with the density-functional theory(DFT), the time-dependent DFT, or other commonly used ab initio electronic structure calculation methods. Applicants with experiences in DFT/TDDFT/MD method/code development, especially those with experiences with long time and/or large scale simulations, are strongly preferred.

Compensations and benefits:
We provide competitive salary in the Chengdu region(southwest China). An after-tax yearly minimum income of at least CNY 180,000 (approximately USD 26600) can be expected, which is adjusted upwards according to the applicant's postdoctoral experiences and higher professional achievements. The exact number of the salary is open to negotiation. The research funding will be fully provided by the MTRC. Benefits include the five social insurances(endowment, medical, unemployment, employment injury, maternity) and the housing provident fund according to national regulations. Fully furbished apartments are provided for all employees. Aside from national holidays, 15 days of paid vacation is available each year. For non-Chinese-citizens, the salary and benefits can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

How to apply:
Interested applicants should direct questions or apply to the position by sending emails to Dr. Zenghui Yang ([email protected]). Applicants should submit a detailed curriculum vitae and a cover letter. In the cover letter, please describe your previous materials modeling and/or software development experiences, and please provide a list of three of your most representative published papers. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled. The employment will start as soon as possible. Applicants with coding experiences are encouraged to send an excerpt of the code he/she worked on, if it's not against copyright laws. The travelling expenses will be compensated if an interview is required.

About MTRC and the device physics research team:
The MTRC is a public institution founded in 2014 as a subsidiary unit of CAEP. The MTRC is located in the Yinhe 596 Science & Technology campus at Chengdu, Sichuan province, China. The research is focused on microsystem and terahertz science and technologies, and we aim to be an open international research platform for fundamental sciences and key technologies. The faculty consists of academicians of the CAS, national "Thousand talents program" professors, State Council expert for special allowances. The main research team currently has 120 permanent members, with more than 60 doctoral degree holders, more than 10 Chinese overseas returnees. The MTRC is currently recruiting actively, and it is aimed to have a research team of 500 members in 2020.

The device physics research team belongs to the microsystem technology lab. The research is mainly about the modeling, simulation, and mechanics of the long-term interaction between semiconductor materials/devices and all types of environmental factors.
