Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

From fundamental research to practical applications, the interdisciplinary research spectrum covers a unique range.

Institute of Surface Science

The Institute of Surface Science specializes in the development of corrosion protection concepts and functional coatings that meet the requirements of future applications from the fields of structural lightweight construction, energy research and medical technology. The experimental development is closely accompanied by modelling approaches and artificial intelligence methods.

Research Scientist / Postdoc
as Young Investigator Group Leader for in situ surface analytics

Reference code: 50068722_2 – 2021/MO 3
Commencement date: as soon as possible
The place of employment is Geesthacht (near Hamburg).
Application deadline: October 10th, 2021

The Institute of Surface Science of Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is looking for a Young Investigator Group Leader in the area of in situ surface analytics. Equality of opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy. We would therefore strongly encourage qualified women to apply for the position.

The newly launched Institute of Surface Science is extending its expertise to the areas of advanced in situ analytical characterization of materials degradation, buried interface formation, electrified interfaces, atmospheric corrosion and degradation of protective coatings. This position is equal to a position of Young Investigator Group Leader who can bring new expertise and gradually develop their own research group aligned with the research interests and project demands of the Institute of Surface Science.

Your tasks

  • run high quality scientific research in the field of corrosion and material degradation
  • understand mechanism of corrosion of magnesium, aluminum, zinc, copper, titanium and other metallic material in complex and varying environments
  • understand metal-coating interaction at buried interfaces
  • study metal degradation in non-aqueous electrolytes
  • understand mechanisms of corrosion acceleration, inhibition, and protection
  • study active protection mechanisms of relevant coatings
  • employ at least some of the available characterization methods: electrochemical and environmental TEM, (environmental) XPS, in situ XRD, GDOES, in situ X-ray nano-micro-tomography, in situ neutron scattering, ATR-FTIR, AFM (including electrochemical and SKPFM) and other relevant methods for listed research topics
