Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Research Scientist position in the Strongly Correlated Quantum Materials Modeling

A Research Specialist position will be opening in the research group of Prof. Anh Ngo (University of Illinois – Chicago) with the earliest start date of May 15, 2022. This position supported by DOE for strongly correlated electron materials using quantum many-body methods such as Density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method, Density functional theory plus Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DFT +DMFT), Exact diagonalization (ED), Numerical Renormalization Group (NRG) or Quantum Monte Carlo.

Duties:

The Research Scientist will be involved in ab initio and many body theory calculations and implementation of different algorithms used to characterize strongly correlated electron materials (For instance, transition-metal oxides and 4f-electron materials).

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or engineering; and experience in quantum many body theory are required.
  • Experience in beyond-DFT approaches (Bethe–Salpeter approach, Self-consistent GW calculations) with a demonstrated ability working with experimental groups.
  • Strong knowledge of the strongly correlated electron systems is desired.
  • Excellent programming abilities (preferably in Python and Fortran), analytical skills, and knowledge of high-performance computing are also required.

APPOINTMENTS/BENEFITS: This position is a 12-month full-time appointment. The position is renewable, depending upon performance and funding. The position remains open until filled.

SALARY:  The salary will be commensurate with experience and achievement. Funding is available from DOE resources.

HOW TO APPLY: As part of the application process, the applicant should provide a current  curriculum vitae, a research statement, teaching philosophy, contact information for three references, and a cover  letter describing qualifications and career goals. Note that all application materials must be  submitted through University of Illinois – Chicago 's online system at:
