Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Do you want to contribute to "technology for a better society"?

We are looking for a new colleague in Trondheim to strengthen our team within computational material science including software development and atomic and electronic scale modelling of solid materials.

Who we are:

In Materials Physics Trondheim we work to understand fundamental physical properties of materials to develop and improve processes and materials. We use several key materials characterization and modelling competencies going all the way down to atomic resolution in combination with material physics understanding to achieve this. We also have a large activity within data driven material science. This includes developing and administrating a toolbox of software and frameworks for interoperability and data processing based on ontologies. We carry out projects within several domains such as physical metallurgy, structural materials, materials for production/storage of renewable energy. The group is part of the department Materials and Nanotechnology in SINTEF Industry.

Your tasks will be, among others, the following:

  • Atomistic and electronic scale modelling in a multiscale perspective as well as development of simulation frameworks and data analysis.
  • Digitalization of material science including software development related to interoperability and development of ontologies to improve representation of scientific data.
  • Research project generation, development, and management.

You will be part of project teams on various projects and will be collaborating with customers from both Norwegian and international industry, other research organisations and colleagues from other parts of SINTEF.

The following qualifications are essential for the position:

  • PhD/MSc in physics, materials science or nanotechnology with clear contributions to atomistic modelling and software development.
  • Experience with electronic and/or atomic scale software.
  • Experience in software development within a structured programming environment.
  • An interest in working with structural metals, especially aluminium.

In addition, the following qualifications will be valued:

  • Documented experience with ontologies and interoperability of materials modelling and strategies, for instance the one developed by the European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC https://emmc.eu/  ).

We are looking for you who:

  • Are truly enthusiastic about computational materials science.
  • Are creative and oriented towards opportunities and solutions and can thereby solve advanced challenges.
  • Take initiative.
  • Have excellent analytical skills and approach problems systematically.
  • Excitingly approach new challenges to further develop your own professional competence base.
  • Work independently as well as in a team, and can build and maintain professional networks
  • Have good communication skills and a good grasp of written and spoken Norwegian and English. Are willing to learn Norwegian through the courses offered if you do not speak a Scandinavian language.

We offer:

  • Exciting tasks in an internationally recognized, dynamic, and motivating working environment.
  • Great opportunities for professional and personal development in an organization that values responsibility and initiative.
  • Participation in innovative national and international projects in close collaboration with industry.
  • Collaboration with academic staff and students at universities and colleges.
  • Flexible working hours, salary based on qualifications, social benefits, good pension, and insurance schemes.

Start: As soon as possible.

Workplace: Trondheim, Norway.
