The Chair of Theoretical Chemistry offers a position as
Research Associate/ PhD Student
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting at the earliest possible date. The position entails initially 50% of the fulltime weekly hours and is limited for 3 years. An increase of work time is possible depending on the performance of the candidate. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed-Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz- WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD). The project is funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
Tasks: Two-dimensional (2D) materials, including 2D crystals and 2D polymers, show extraordinary electronic and optoelectronic properties that can differ significantly from their layered bulk counterparts. The subject of this project is to study how the intrinsic properties of the 2D materials can be maintained or even improved when interfacing the materials with surfaces, interfaces, and with surfactant molecules. The studies will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental groups in Karlsruhe and in Seoul, Korea.
Requirements: university degree (M.Sc., Dipl.) in Chemistry, Physics or related fields; interest in Theoretical Chemistry; knowledge of density-functional theory and/ or the properties of two- dimensional materials is an advantage. Excellent knowledge of English language is required. Employee secondments of up to 6 months (in total) to Seoul and Karlsruhe are expected. We also expect engagement in teaching activities of the Theoretical Chemistry group according to the DAVOHS.
