Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

We are looking for talented people to join us.

NFDI-MatWerk is the consortium for the National Research Data Infrastructure for Materials Science and Engineering. It aims to seamlessly integrate decentralized data and metadata, experimental and numerical workflows, and a materials ontology to maximize interoperability and reproducibility of materials data processing. Consideration will be given to the challenges posed by the many structural scales of materials and the many methods associated with them. The position advertised here is in the Workflows and Software Development TaskArea of NFDI-MatWerk.

Your responsibilities include:

The position offers you a unique opportunity to work in a cross-institutional team at the intersection of new software concept development and breakthrough materials research. Your role will be to create, implement and apply workflows in a digital development environment that enables the following:

  • Innovative material simulations that reproducibly combine raw data with prediction of material behavior in the form of numbers, graphs, and reports
  • Multiscale material simulations starting from the atomic scale and aiming to develop new structural and functional materials
  • Combined treatment of research data and the associated error bars
  • Evaluation of data quality & reliability, data consistency and completeness
  • Analysis of sensitivity of simulated results from accuracy of input variables and error propagation
  • Digital representation and processing of digital experimental data from different resources in common databases
  • Collaboration with project partners and academic interested parties in the environment of the NFDI-MatWerk project

Your qualifications:

  • Succesfully completed scientific university studies in the fields of physics, computer science, materials science or engineering science
  • A good doctorate in these fields is an advantage
