Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

A position is open for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to be based at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge, co-supervised by Prof Clare Grey (https://www.ch.cam.ac.uk/group/grey/index) and Dr Andrew J. Morris at the University of Birmingham (http://www.andrewjmorris.org).

In close collaboration with experimentalists, this project focuses on developing new first principles models of electrode coatings, surface reconstructions and oxygen loss in battery anodes and cathodes using planewave density-functional techniques.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational physics or chemistry, or other relevant disciplines, including a PhD in a relevant area. Experience of planewave DFT codes, spectroscopic calculations in DFT (e.g. NMR, EELS, XANES) and surface modelling would be advantageous. The ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are required.

The duties/responsibilities of this post include developing and driving research objectives, writing up work for presentation and publication, collaborating with industrial partners, assisting in the supervision of student research projects, and delivering seminars and occasional talks. The successful candidate will be expected to engage with the Faraday Institution. (www. faraday.ac.uk)

Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a covering letter describing your suitability for the position, and a full list of your publications in the upload section of the online application.
