Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The Renewable Energy Electronics Lab, led by Adam Moule, at the UC Davis Department of Chemical Engineering has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral scholar in the application of machine learning (ML) approaches for quantum and classical simulations of organic electronic (OE) materials. The primary research thrust of this position involves developing computational tools to predict optical and electronic properties in real “defective” samples. The approaches developed here will be validated using inelastic neutron scattering, x-ray diffraction, and charge mobility experiments with the long-term goal of predicting materials properties in disordered and impure materials.  The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with Nir Goldman, a scientist within the Materials Science Division of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performing quantum calculations and developing machine learning based models for organic crystalline materials.

- Developing new approaches and/or tools to apply multi-scale modeling to interpretation of inelastic neutron scattering data.

-Publishing in peer-reviewed journals and communicating research findings at national and international conferences and meetings.

- Understanding and following UC Davis’s policies and regulations related to health and safety management.

MARGINAL DUTIES
- Establishing independent research projects.

- Mentoring graduate students on computational projects.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Recent PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in first-principles simulation techniques of condensed phases.
- Experience in programming in C++, Fortran 95, Python, or an equivalent high-level language. Knowledge of a scripting language is a plus.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated capabilities to author  technical and scientific reports and publications and deliver scientific presentations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work in a diverse multidisciplinary and multicultural research team environment.
- Recent record of peer-reviewed publications.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

Send your CV to Prof. Adam Moule using e-mail: [email protected]
