Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Postdoc Opening in the Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering at Mississippi State University

There is an opening for a postdoctoral associate in the Molecular Science and Engineering Lab (http://railab.che.msstate.edu/) directed by Dr. Neeraj Rai. The successful candidate will perform density functional theory calculations to develop mechanistic insights into chemical transformations for biomass conversion on zeolitic and transitional metal catalysts.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree (or completed all requirements for Ph.D.) in chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline. Experience in DFT calculations for periodic systems using VASP, CP2K, or other plane-wave codes is required. Experience with molecular dynamics and/or Monte Carlo simulations is preferred. The successful applicant is expected to have some programming experience.  The initial appointment is for one year with a possibility of extension based on the performance and the availability of funding.

Candidates should email Dr. Rai ([email protected]) detailed vitae, a statement of research interests and career goals, and the names and addresses of three references.  Review of applications will begin January 05, 2020, and continue until the position is filled. The start date can be as early as February 1, 2020.

MSU is one of the largest public institutions of higher learning in the state of Mississippi. MSU had over $239.4 million in research expenditure for the year 2016. In addition, High-Performance Computing Collaboratory (HPC2) provides a number of highly capable supercomputers for computational research at MSU. MSU campus is spread over nearly 4000 acres and provides an ideal setting for research and extracurricular activities.

MSU is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, ethnicity, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, disability status, age, sexual orientation, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
