Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a 3-4 week delay between posts being submitted and emails being sent to the mailing list. Please bear with us while we try to improve this.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The research group of Prof. Lilia Woods (University of South Florida, Tampa, FL) has an opening for a postdoc researcher in theoretical/computational condensed matter physics/materials science. The project focuses on response properties and long-ranged fluctuation-induced interactions in systems with Dirac-like spectra. More specifically, emphasis will be placed on electronic and optical response of materials including non-linear effects and novel plasmon and optical phenomena. The development of theoretical and  computational methods to understand the fundamental nature of how van der Waals and Casimir interactions, for example, evolve in materials with reduced dimensions and/or topologically non-trivial phases will also be undertaken. The successful candidate will have strong background in theoretical condensed matter as well as computer programming proficiency. A PhD in theoretical condensed matter physics, math or theoretical chemistry is a requirement. Candidates with knowledge about properties of topologically-nontrivial materials and/or experience with Wannier function computational schemes are particularly encouraged to apply. The project is collaborative and involves working with experimentalists and other theorists.

This is a three-year position with annual contract renewal upon satisfactory productivity and mutual agreement. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, a CV containing a full publication list, and the contact information of three references to [email protected] by September 6, 2021. The position is expected to start in September/October of 2021. Further information about our research can be found at http://faculty.cas.usf.edu/lmwoods/.

The Physics Department is dynamic with a collegiate climate. University of South Florida is located in the Tampa Bay area, which offers many opportunities for social and cultural experiences. Several award-winning beaches are nearby.
