The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics at Columbia University invite applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Computational Mineral/Materials Physics. The successful candidate will join Renata Wentzcovitch’s group to conduct research on materials simulation at extreme conditions, including strongly correlated oxides and/or weakly bonded materials (ice), mineral physics, materials discovery, and simulation software development. The primary goal of this research is to advance computations of materials properties to model planetary interiors. The selected candidate will join the Seismology, Geology & Tectonophysics division of Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
Requirements:
Ph.D. in materials or condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry, materials science, mineral physics or related discipline is required. Previous experience with ab initio calculations of vibrational properties, and/or molecular dynamics, and/or genetic algorithms, and/or Mössbauer and NMR spectroscopy, and/or thermodynamics equilibrium and phase diagrams is necessary.
