Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We announce an opening for a postdoctoral position within the Materials Theory group at the Department of Physics, University of Trento. This opportunity involves conducting theoretical investigations into order-disorder phase transitions induced by ultrafast pulses, with a specific emphasis on phase change materials and tetrahedral semiconductors. Our preferred methods for this position include ab initio techniques such as Car-Parrinello and machine learning molecular dynamics, alongside density functional perturbation theory and many-body perturbation theory techniques.

This position is generously funded by the Italian Minister of Research (PRIN-MIUR).

Key Details:

Start Date: Ideally, the postdoc should start in the first months of 2024. Some limited variations in the starting date are possible.

Duration: One year, with the possibility of extension based on positive evaluations.

Salary: Highly competitive, with a yearly gross remuneration of 34,000 Euros. Postdocs who have been outside Italy in the last three years are entitled to a significant tax reduction.

Requirements:

A PhD in physics, chemistry, or material science.

Proficiency in one of the following areas:

First principles electronic structure calculations.

Ab initio and classical molecular dynamics.

Many-body perturbation theory.

Encouragement for Code Developers:

Developers of ab initio codes (e.g., Quantum Espresso, Abinit, CPMD) are warmly encouraged to apply.

About Us:

The successful candidate will join the theory group at the University of Trento led by Prof. Matteo Calandra. Our research environment is collaborative and friendly, with access to excellent computational facilities, including a cluster comprised of thousands of processors. We routinely access PRACE and supercomputing facilities. The group has recently secured competitive grants from private companies, foundations, and the European Community (ERC Advanced grant).
