Postdoctoral position in computational chemistry/catalysis is available at the Section for Catalysis, Department of Chemistry/Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, University of Oslo, Norway.
http://www.mn.uio.no/kjemi/english/research/groups/catalysis/catalysis_research_group.html
The fellowship period is 2 years. Within the framework of the position duties may be assigned.
The successful candidate should be prepared to start October 1st, 2017. No one can be appointed for more than one postdoctoral research fellowship at the same institution.
Job description/Project description
The position is financed by the FRINATEK programme of the Research Council of Norway on the project “Unraveling the potential of confinement effects in catalysts and adsorbents (CONFINE)”. The main objective of the project is to enable design of single-site heterogeneous catalysts where confinement is a major parameter for catalyst selectivity.
The catalysis group is at the forefront of international catalysis research and counts 5 professors and 2 adjunct professors. The successful candidates will work in a highly crossdisciplinary and internationally competitive research environment comprising ∼ 40 PhD candidates and post docs.
The successful candidate will study oxidation catalysis over homogeneous and heterogeneous copper-based catalysts using atom-scale modeling. Periodic DFT calculations will be a tool.
Requirements
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in quantum chemistry or computational solid-state physics, preferably involving periodic band structure calculations. Candidates without a PhD degree must complete the final exam before starting as postdoctoral fellow.
A strong ability to work independently is appreciated, as well as the ability to view the computational work in a wider context, relating it to experimental results and collaborating closely with experimentalists. Experience in installing and tuning software for efficiency on high performance computing resources would be an advantage. A good working knowledge of the English language is necessary.
The applicant must state in the application letter which competencies he/she commands that could be beneficial for the CONFINE project. In addition, the applicant must describe why his/her background is suitable and advantageous for the position. Applications without such specification and description will not be considered.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
