Unit: Institute for Condensed Matter and Complex Systems
We seek to hire up to three postdoctoral research associates in the Edinburgh Computational Materials Physics group. The extended group contains five faculty members and has world leading access to computational resources including the UK National Supercomputer – ARCHER. The new openings are at the following groups with the specific skill set sought:
Elton Santos group: Magnetism in Layered Materials
i) Magnetism and spin-transport
ii) Micromagnetic methods (Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation, Langevin dynamics)
iii) Continuum theories and strongly correlated spin Hamiltonians
Graeme Ackland group: Hydrogen at Extreme Conditions, allying Theory and Experiment
i) Free energy calculations, including path integral methods
ii) Large-scale molecular dynamics
iii) Machine learning applied to interatomic force models
The successful applicants will be working on the forefront of several research topics which include experimental collaborations with Edinburgh’s Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions and numerous international groups.
The successful applicants must be qualified to PhD level in physics, chemistry or related discipline. They should be able to drive their own research program, write papers and assist with students. The appointment is for up to three years. The start date is negotiable with a tentative date over September-November 2020.
