Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a
postdoctoral researcher position in the area of theoretical condensed matter physics and materials
science with a starting date in January, 2023. Applicants are expected to have completed their
PhD in physics, materials science or related fields. The postdoc will participate in research
activities associated with the UMN Center for Quantum Materials (CQM) under the joint
supervision of Prof. Rafael Fernandes (School of Physics and Astronomy) and Prof. Turan
Birol (Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science). The successful candidate is
expected to perform both computational calculations and theoretical modeling. The research
activities in the CQM are highly collaborative, and strong interactions with the CQM
experimental groups is an important duty associated with the position.

The main goal of the CQM is to substantially advance the understanding of quantum electronic
phases and phase transitions in select quantum materials, particularly oxides. This is achieved
through the synthesis of exceptional quality model materials in both bulk and thin-film form, the
application of cutting-edge neutron, x-ray, and other probes, the exploration of novel material
control paradigms (especially strain-based), and tight coupling to theory. The hired postdoctoral
researcher is going to work on developing and applying theoretical models for a wide range of
quantum materials, employing first principles calculations and analytical modeling. More
information about the CQM can be found at https://cqm.umn.edu .

Please apply online at: https://hr.myu.umn.edu/jobs/ext/352157 (Job ID 352157). The application
consists of a single pdf file containing a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a short research
statement, and the names and complete contact information for three references. Please arrange
for three letters of reference to be sent to the Academic Jobs Online website under Job ID 2327
(note that the application itself must be completed in the University of Minnesota website given
above). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The University of Minnesota is committed to the policy that all persons shall have equal access
to its programs, facilities, and employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national
origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, or sexual
orientation.
