Postdoctoral Positions in First-Principles Theory and Modelling

Extreme Materials Initiative
Earth & Planets Laboratory
Carnegie Institution for Science
Washington, D.C.

A postdoctoral position is expected to be available to apply density functional theory (DFT) and dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) methods to study the thermal and electrical conductivity in iron alloys under extreme pressure and temperature conditions, and to apply these properties to magnetohydrodynamic models of Earth and planetary cores. A second position is expected to be available in first-principles studies of ferroelectrics for applications as transducers and energy materials. An experimental component is possible for this project.

Experience with first-principles DFT methods is essential, and a background with DMFT and transport properties is highly desirable. A background in geophysics is recommended but not required.  The postdocs will gain valuable experience by developing expertise in first-principles molecular dynamics, transport theory, and geophysical applications.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter together with a CV (including list of publications and names of references) to Ronald Cohen  ([email protected]) at their earliest convenience.
