Back to Job listings...
A postdoctoral position is available at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, involving the fields of quantum chemistry, machine learning, and quantum computing. The main objective is to develop physics-aware ML models, apply those to find new catalysts, and experiment with alternative designs of quantum ML models to explore a quantum advantage.
We are looking for a highly motivated and creative candidate interested in interdisciplinary research working with researchers from the Department of Chemistry and from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. The work will involve applications of quantum chemistry, and significant experience with at least one of the major program packages (Gaussian, ORCA, etc.) is expected. Familiarity with UNIX/LINUX, bash scripting, Python programming, etc. is also required, as is some previous experience with machine learning. A highly qualified candidate would also have experience with quantum computing, however, it is not necessarily expected but the willingness to acquire the necessary skill sets is required for the project.
The research will be jointly supervised by Professor Ulrich Fekl and Professor Hans-Arno Jacobsen. The position is funded by a major competitive Canadian Tri-agency Grant. The position is expected to have funding for two years. Initially, a one year contract will be offered whose extension is subject to solid progress established in the first project year. The candidate should be able to start as soon as possible (details negotiable).
Application Details & Contact: Applicants should submit a cover letter highlighting qualifications and an academic curriculum vitae with list of publications as ONE SINGLE PDF file via completing the online form at https://bit.ly/PDF-QML-at-UofT . Also, one letter of recommendation should be emailed directly from the reference to Prof. Ulrich Fekl <[email protected]> and Prof. Hans-Arno Jacobsen <[email protected]> (cc’d).
Further questions about the chemical aspects can be addressed to Prof. Ulrich Fekl <[email protected]> and questions about the computational aspects can be addressed to Hans-Arno Jacobsen <[email protected]>. The position will be filled as an adequate candidate is found. Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis. Applications should be sent AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The University of Toronto is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from visible minority group members, women, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas.
